Rats live in close association with people in urban or suburban areas. They can be found in and around residences, cellars, warehouses, stores, docks and sewers. They can be spotted wherever suitable food, water and shelter are present. Rat’s nuisance in the premises can upset daily life and removing rats from the premises can be even more challenging.
The first step in good rodent control management program is always a quality inspection.
Inspection
Since rodents are usually active at night, we can only look for rodent infestation during daytime to trace the activities of rodents. Personnel conducting an inspection should have the knowledge and skills in detecting signs of live or dead rodent. Rodent droppings are a strong indication of current or recent rodent activity. Cleaning & removal of food items reduce the rat population to a certain extent.
Trapping
Traps should be placed along walls and in paths where rodent travel. If the rats are in a larger open area then a snap trap along bait is the most effective option of getting rid of the rats.
